Entire Pakistan team resigns
The entire Pakistan squad of 18 players has 'retired' from international hockey.
Skipper Zeeshan Ashraf said the Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) had done a lot for the players but they had not delivered up to expectations in the 2010 world cup. They accepted the defeat and had decided to retire from international hockey. They would, however, be available in future if needed by Pakistan, he said.
In better news for Asian hockey, Hockey India and the PHF have announced an annual test series for both men and women at senior and junior levels. The federations have also agreed to exchange players in their domestic leagues and to start an eight-team sub-continental league to be played in both countries. Four teams from each country will initially play in the double-leg league.
The federations have also decided to exchange technical officials and umpires and have resolved to promote hockey in Asia with particular emphasis on the sub-continent.
