Netherlands and Germany draw on World Cup day eight

Germany and the Netherlands are still the likely semi-finalists from group A, but there is still some hope for Korea after their convincing win on day eight of the 2010 World Cup.
Netherlands and Germany drew the showpiece game of the day 2-2 while Korea spanked Canada 9-2.

Lingering Kiwis dreams of a semi-final spot were snuffed out by Argentina. In a match of exceptional dullnes, a brilliant finish by Facundo Callioni shone supernova bright in the Dhyan Chand Stadium - he dived full length to deflect a Pedro Ibarra cross from the right into the roof of Kyle Pontifex's net in the 55th minute. This was a well deserved debut win for the South Americans after some close defeats in this tournament. Ryan Archibald hit the post with a penalty stroke for the Kiwis.
In the Holland-Germany clash. The Dutch shaded the first half with a single goal from a Wouter Jolie penalty corner hit (24mins) - a rare event in international hockey these days.
The Germans dominated most of the second half, equalising when Robert van der Horst turned a Oliver Korn cross from just inside the D into his own net (44mins). In the next minute Guus Vogels in the Dutch goal saved brilliantly as Jan Philipp Rabente bore down on the net. The Germans then had to wait until the 63rd minute to take a deserved lead when a slap into the D from Martin Haner caught a deflection, cannoned into the crossbar and found Jean-Marco Montag waiting for the rebound.
The Dutch were not finished yet, and the 'Mr Big Game' himself Teun de Noijer sneaked in at the left post to level the scores with five minutes to go.
Day Nine Preview
England's semi-final spot is assured before their game against Spain. The Spaniards could still finish level on points with Australia if they win and the Kookaburras lose. But with the Australians playing Pakistan and with their goal difference 14 better than Spain's, Australian qualification is all-but certain.
South Africa and India play the final game of the group - if England win and India can turn around a six-goal goal-difference disadvantage compared to the Spanish, the hosts could still be playing off for fifth/sixth place.
